Zernike polynomials used for measurement of optical aberrations

Presenter: Elena Anisimova

The Zernike polynomials are a set of functions that are orthogonal over the unit circle. They express wavefront data in polynomial form. It is very useful method for describing the shape of an aberrated wavefront in the pupil of an optical system. There are specific mathematical expressions of individual aberrations using Zernike polynomials. This fact will be taken into account and PSF of various aberrations like coma, astigmatism, spherical aberration etc. will be calculated as a Fourier transform of mathematical aberration prescription. After that, derived PSF will be used for mother wavelet construction, which will extract aberration features from processed astronomical images.
