Status of GRIPS

The COMPTEL and INTEGRAL detectors have provide a glimpse of the rich astrophysical inventory at MeV energies. Nevertheless, the MeV band remains the least explored window of the electromagnetic spectrum still awaiting a major all-sky survey mission that reaches a sensitivity improved by one or better two orders of magnitude. This is the goal of the GRIPS mission, providing imaging, polarimetry and spectroscopic capabilities across a wide band from 200 keV to 80 MeV. The next steps and challenges towards realising this goal will be outlined.
