» Capabilities of Medipix2 and Timepix Devices as Detectors for Lobster Eye X-Ray Optics
Presenter: Vladimir Tichy
The hybrid semiconductor pixel device Medipix2 is a single particle counting detector of ionizing radiation from approx. 3keV of energy. It has small dimensions (256 x 256 square pixels with pitch of 55 microns) and low power consumption. This makes the detector suitable for space applications, e.g. as a detector for an X-ray telescope with a lobster eye optics. The lobster eye is a type of an X-ray optics using two perpendicular sets of mirroring plates for focusing. This optics provides wide field of view. The results of the preliminary experiments with the Medipix2 detector and the lobster eye optics are presented and discussed. Tests are performed with X-rays of energy about 8keV. X-ray source is imaged from variant positions. Image distortions as function of source position are described. The field of view and the spatial resolution are described.
