Monitoring of outbursts of soft X-ray transients with X-ray telescopes
Presentation duration: 20 minutes
Presenter: Vojtech Simon
We discuss the long-term (months, years) activity of the so-called soft X-ray transients located in our Galaxy. These systems contain a compact object (neutron star, black hole) accreting matter from their low-mass, lobe filling companion. We show how this activity manifests itself in the X-ray spectral region. We pay special attention to their intense outbursts. We present examples of the light curves of such objects obtained by X-ray monitors (e.g. ASM/RXTE). We show that the X-ray light curves of these objects obtained by the monitors contain various very useful features which can be used for the astrophysical analyzes.
